AUTHORS. Maurice Sadowsky, MJSTI Corp.

ABSTRACT. We have demonstrated “Proof of Concept” for an effective fish pesticide to selectively target bighead, sliver, grass and common carp. Koi, inbreed common carp voluntarily ate the formulation and then die. Inspection of the dead fish show the poison has affected internal organs by ingestion/digestion mechanism. The ingredients in the formulation are U.S. food grade or animal feed grade materials. Because our active ingredients are coated with a fatty substance, people, non-target species and environmental interactions are minimal. In the field there will be some further safeguards: Conservation officers should be able to limit the spread of the pesticide by treatment site selection; if any pesticide escapes an area being treated, in a few days the formulation should break down to safe levels of chemicals already found in our rivers and lakes; the active ingredients should have minimal impact on another animal inadvertently digesting a few beads. Finally, the raw materials are all low cost commodities and the manufacturing process is practiced in the US with excess capacity. The primary active ingredient is already a registered EPA pesticide with known aquatic toxicity. Its manufacturer will support the EPA registration process for our product.
