ABSTRACT. The Kinnickinnic River on Milwaukee’s south side is undergoing a $100 million revitalization process to improve river, ecosystem and neighborhood health. As steps are taken to transform the river and neighborhood into a healthy space, the community is actively engaged to take part in the transformation process. Culturally relevant and intergenerational environmental programming engages community members around water resources, recreation, access to green space and community health. Experiential education opportunities allow the community to engage in their urban environment restoration process in a way that can impact behavior change and implement sustainable environmental practices to achieve a healthier Kinnickinnic River Corridor neighborhood.
