ABSTRACT: Invasive species often display phenotypic plasticity of growth and reproduction between established populations and the invasion front. We aim to investigate the differences in reproductive maturity, spawning activity, and fecundity potential between an established population of Asian carp in the Illinois River at Havana, Illinois, and the invasion front near the Chicago area. We present the first three months of data from our year-long study. Our preliminary results suggest that differences exist in growth and reproductive function between established carp and those at the invasion front. This information will provide insight into the potential use of reproduction-based control measures for Asian carp in the Illinois River.
